Taking the Long View - 6/11/24
We’ve got snap legislative elections in France! After the far-right’s performance in the EU elections this past weekend, President Macron called for elections, with the first round on June 30 and the second round on July 7. These are not presidential elections, which are still slated for 2027 and will likely show LePen in a strong position for that race. Macron will be term-limited out, so it is unclear who she would be going up against. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
Regardless, we are in for a historic summer. Axios has dubbed it the summer of “never before” with the following key dates. I would add that Iran’s elections are on June 28 and the Democratic National Convention opens August 19th.
📺 June 27: Biden-Trump debate on CNN.
🇫🇷 June 30: French snap elections, which could shift its government to the right. Second and final round: July 7.
🇬🇧 July 4: Britain holds elections that will shift power to the left, while the U.S. celebrates Independence Day.
⚖️ July 11: Trump is sentenced.
🧀 July 15: Republican National Convention opens in Milwaukee.
🇮🇱 July 24: Netanyahu addresses joint session of Congress.
🥇 July 26: Olympics open in Paris.
I have thoughts and prayers for those already running on fumes. In that spirit, I share this week’s meme. The only thing it is missing is Wi-Fi—I get it all done with coffee, wine, and Wi-Fi, darling.
