This won’t be a long newsletter, as I’m guessing most of you are exhausted. Some of you are excited about the results, while others are devastated.
I wrote the first draft of this at 11 a.m. Eastern, cautioning everyone that this is what we prepared for. It looked like this might take awhile. But at 1:30 a.m., the New York Times has it as very likely that Trump will win. While it may take a while to call officially, things are trending very well for Republicans.
There is much to unpack from what happened over the last two years and what it signifies for the next four years.
I would try to write a pep talk here, but I came across this clip by Jon Stewart on Instagram, and I think he puts it best: “This is not the end. We need to regroup and continue to work day in and day out to create the better society that we know is possible.”
Get some sleep. Give yourself time to process. Let’s be careful with hot takes and pointing blame. Let’s be thoughtful in assessing the new environment we are in as there is a lot to unpack. Then, let’s figure out the path forward.
It is not hard to understand what happened.
One side said supporters of the other side were evil, but enough undecided people knew people who were being called evil, but were not evil. So, naturally, they questioned the narrative and voted accordingly.
Thanks... Onward
